Burrage Mansion

MassachusettsCompletion date: 2002
Construction cost: $7.5 million
Size: 25,000 square feet

Spectacular original millwork, marble and stonework define this 1890s French Chateau-style mansion, which we carefully converted into four speculative condominium units with garage parking at the basement. We recreated the original Dining Room, mostly demolished in an earlier renovation. We restored the Great Hall and monumental Stair Hall in period style, separating them with a new, mirrored, wood and iron wall. The Conservatory originally featured a lava rock wall for cultivating orchids: we restored that unique feature and developed the room into a Family Room and Kitchen. The two-level penthouse lacked period detail and featured angular roof lines: working within those parameters, we built it out with a minimalist aesthetic of limestone, onyx and stainless steel.
