The relocation of the beloved over one-hundred-year-old Boston brahmin store to its Newbury Street location required a complete fit out of the multi floor space, as well as a total reconstruction of the unfortunate entry addition that was added in the 1980s. The new store façade was designed to recall the classical revival design of the original Shreve’s store, with its bronze toned paneling, classic awning, iron gas lights with brass and wrought iron detailing. The interiors repeat some of this stylistic intent, but with a more modern feel, while providing for the display of the merchandise that varies from dishware and watches to gems and jewelry. Lighting intensity, angles and color rendering are essential to bring out the beauty of the contents, while maintaining the experience of the historic store, and achieving the 21st century security and functional requirements.
