This significant Federal style home on the equally historic residential thoroughfare of Brattle Street, in Cambridge Massachusetts, a short walk from Harvard Square, was in 1807 the main house occupying many acres of farmland. After several alterations, our clients asked us to subtly rework and furnish the structure to house their extensive collection of modern art, and update the home for modern living. The resulting modifications were done with a light touch on the main floors, with more warm but minimalist detailing where the room use was changed, or editing where less invasive techniques were required to maintain the integrity of the original important spaces. Connections to the extensive landscaping, and outfitting of the basement and attic spaces were the more major alterations.
