We built our own home on a narrow, 16-foot by fifty-five foot lot among the brick rowhouses of Boston’s historic South End. A modern interpretation of the vernacular, the home’s activity is focused on the second floor with a two-story glass living area, which allows for passive solar heating, along with the sunlight and views the typical rowhouse lacks. Exposed steel framing with fir decking, walnut paneling and marble finishes play an industrial aesthetic against the Modern. Contained within those finishes are LEED Silver systems, materials, technologies and construction methods which make the home sustainable.
